This weekend hundreds of people will line up around Australia in various State Monopoly Championships and it will all culminate in the World Monopoly Championships in Tokyo in October. Why has Monopoly been so successful? One possibility is that it’s a very accurate reflection of our cavorting capitalist society. Andrea Johansen spoke to Australian Monopoly Champion Timothy Hawse and University of South Australia Cultural Communications expert Dr Jackie Cook about the true nature of Monopoly.
