Redundant Telstra workers face another blow

Amid Telstra’s many announcements this week, a controversial one regarding the loss of 12,000 jobs has upset telecommunications union, CEPU. It’s now calling on all Australians to condemn the decision.The union believes a Telstra policy which orders its own contractors to not employ staff made redundant, is cause for concern. But Telstra claims the policy ensures there are no negative taxation implications for them. Spokesman for the Telecommunications Union CEPU, Steve Dodd, says the thousands of Telstra workers to be made redundant over the next five years will face difficulties being re-employed as a result of the policy.
