Redfern Inquiry
A clergyman and National Living Treasure has joined the calls for legal heroin and safe injecting rooms – at the New South Wales Parliament’s Redfern inquiry today. Earlier this week, Indigenous state MP Linda Burney told the inquiry that legal heroin would eliminate the suburb’s drug trade – but would have to be done in consultation with the indigenous community. The suggestion also has the support of Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore. Head of the Exodus Foundation Rev Bill Crews sees the move as a solution for crime and poverty in Redfern and says that making heroin available to hardened addicts is the only way to reintegrate them into society. Rev Crews spoke to Kerry Klimm.
