Police have been absolved of any responsibility for the death of a teenage boy in Redfern in February. There were high hopes among the people of Redfern and the Hickey family that the inquest into the young Kamillaroi man’s death would provide answers and some closure to a painful episode. Paulette Whitton of Sydney’s Koori Radio was at the Coroner’s Court when the findings were handed down. She said people she spoke to in the Indigenous community described the official conclusion an insult and a kick-in-the-guts.
