The Annual Reclaim the Night Rally took place in Sydney’s Hyde Park last night, speaking out against harassment and domestic violence. It follows several other Reclaim the Night events that have been taking place across Australian capital cities this month. But organizers and attendees alike are saying there’s something different about this year. Recently Australia has witnessed the death of Jill Meagher, heard 2GB talk show host Alan Jones’ comments about the Prime Minister’s father, and Julia Gillard herself speaking about against misogyny in Parliament. Many rally-goers believe feminist discussion has become more mainstream.
