A recent study has found some school curriculums within New Zealand focus on the development of technical reading skills, but reading for pleasure is not a priority. 

Researchers say narrowly focusing on skills alone has not served younger generations well, and that enjoyment of reading needs to be supported and valued, alongside skill.  

The Wire’s Aryana Mohmood spoke with Lecturer in Education at the Auckland University of Technology, Celeste Harrington about the importance of reading for pleasure and how schools can implement this within their curriculums.
