Alcohol is the latest commodity to be used in the grocery price tug-of-war between Woolworths and Coles. Both companies have dropped their prices to a bare minimum, sometimes below cost, as they battle one another to lure customers to their supermarket chains.
But while consumers are happy about the heavy discounting, health authorities have warned that cutting alcohol prices this close to the festive season encourages violence.
