Controversy in Queensland Parliament this week when the it passed an ammendment to mining legislation allowing an extension of Xstrata Coal’s Newland Coal Mine in North Queensland; despite the Supreme Court overturning a Land and Resources Tribunal decision to allow the mine’s expansion wihtout offsetting greenhouse emissions. With neither main player (Queensland Conservation Council who initiated the court proceedings and the Qld Government) available for comment Heather Anderson negotiates the debate.
