Yesterday the Queensland Parliament historically voted to decriminalise abortion, in one of the state’s biggest legislative reforms.

Queensland Premier Annatascia Palaszczuk said that the Termination of Pregnancy Act 2018, which passed comfortably with a margin of 50 to 41 votes ensures that women can access medical services and health professionals can provide them without fear or stigma.

The new laws allow for the termination of a pregnancy to take place after 22 weeks’ gestation.
