A mega-dam is going ahead in the Gympie region to feed water catchments in the south-east as the drought continues to deepen. Planned to be as big as the Wivenhoe Dam, the water grid is predicted to supply Gympie, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. However local residents are up in arms over the developments, saying not only their livelihoods are under threat but also the unique marine life contained in the region.
