Qantas has responded to threats of industrial action by sending managers to Los Angeles for training in case they have to fill in as baggage handlers or check in operators. The Transport Workers Union – which represents Qantas ground staff – has slammed the move as immoral and un-Australian. The union wants a 4 per cent pay increase for workers and a boost to superannuation. Qantas pilots also want a pay rise and guarantees on job security.
