Whilst the election debate rages in parliament and across our media landscape one issue is conveniently pushed to the side. Indigenous issues are not being treated as an election winning platform but allegations raised this morning of a youth curfew in a small South Australian town remind us all that Indigenous communities are faltering. This year is the 40th anniversary of the referendum of 1967 when 90 per cent of Australians voted to make Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders Australian citizens but Vince Coulthard of Umeewarra Media in Port Augusta believes these problems today show we haven’t come far in forty years.
