Australians are encouraged to take proactive measures to prevent fire risks this winter.
According to the New South Wales Fire & Rescue, nearly half of homes damaged by fire in the state last winter did not have a functional smoke alarm. Sixty percent of the fires to which ACT Fire and Rescue are called each year happen in winter.
In spite of this increased fire danger, there are helpful safety tips and practices homeowners and tenants can utilise to ensure a safe winter.
