Although Gunns Ltd say they want to begin construction on their Tasmanian pulp mill within weeks, after it received ministerial approval, Australia’s Chief Scientist, Dr Jim Peacock, says further environmental impact studies must be carried out before construction begins. The mill could face expensive remodelling or even be shut down all together if tose studies show negative environmental impacts.
