Following the success of creative urban renewal programs in cities from Melbourne to New York, the Sydney City Council is turning to artists to breathe new life into their streets and unused public space. Turning away from the large stone statues of traditional public art, the council has taken a more contemporary approach, curating a diverse program of performance, poetry and semi-permanent installations to ‘activate’ – rather than clutter – Sydney’s streets.
