Protesters marched on Acland Coal Mine in Queensland today. The mine is located in the Darling Downs and close to residential areas. Protestors are concerned about the health impacts of the coal mine and the potential effects if a proposal to expand the mine is approved.
The protestors say the Acland coal mine is symbolic and sums up what’s wrong with the rush to develop gas and coal, and the success of the protest is important to set a precedent for future developments. Protestors from Lock the Gate Alliance were joined by politicians, farmers, and prominent shock-jock Alan Jones
