Women who get support from an Indigenous-led model of maternity care are three times less likely to have their Indigenous babies removed by child protection services.

This is according to new research from the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health which collected data from the Birthing in Our Community (BIOC) hub and the Mater Mothers hospital in Meanjin, Brisbane.

The results show a big decrease in the number of mothers who had their children removed when undertaking the BiOC service model, as opposed to the standard care.
