We could see more public services run by private companies if governments follow the advice set out in the Productivity Commission’s preliminary report into human services.
Before the election, Treasurer Scott Morrison asked the Commission to find “innovative ways” to improve outcomes in human services through introducing competition and user choice.
Social housing, public hospitals, specialist palliative care, public dental services, services in remote Indigenous communities, and grant-based family and community services could all see greater levels of private involvement under the recommendations.
