Privacy concerns over spread of facial recognition technology

Privacy advocates have expressed concerns over the expansion of facial recognition technology in Australia, after retail chain 7 Eleven announced they were using it in all of their stores.

They’re not alone, with Federal Human Rights Commissioner Edward Santow recently saying there aren’t strong enough protections in place to prevent the misuse of facial recognition technology in activities like policing.
