Prisoners serving sentences under three years have won the right to vote in Federal elections, after the High Court overturned federal legislation yesterday. In 2006, the Hosward Government passed legislation which denied all prisoners the right to vote in Federal Elections. This law was challenged in the High Court by Vickie Roach, a prisoner at the Dame Phyllis Frost Centre in Melbourne. On Thursday 30th August the High Court struck down the blanket prohibition on prisoner voting.
