Prison population rises for another year

The prison population of Australia continues to climb with figures releases by the Australian Bureau of Statistics yesterday showing a 10 per cent increase in the number of people in jail from June 2013 to June this year. The biggest increases were among women, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women’s rates up 18 per cent over the past year, while there were 13 per cent more non-Indigenous women this June since last year.
