The Victorian ombudsman tabled a report in parliament on Thursday 22 November about his investigation into the use of excessive force at the Melbourne Custody Centre. The investigation found excessive force was used against a remand prisoner during a strip search; it also found a lack of appropriate training, failure to follow procedures, a limited understanding by staff of powers and an inappropriate attitude of some staff. The Melbourne Custody Centre is run by the private company GEO Group Australia.
