A report released this week from the Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils of Australia says that people from non-English speaking background are more likely to have poorer health outcomes due to cultural and language barriers. The report also names dementia as the leading illness faced by elderly migrants and says numbers of sufferers are expected to rise significantly by 2050. FECCA chairperson, Joseph Caputo told the Wire today that the lack of culturally appropriate care plays a huge role in those health outcomes.
