Police apologise for TASTY nightclub raid 20 years ago
The Tasty Nightclub raid is often referred to as the lowest point in the relationship between Victoria Police and Melbourne’s LGBTI community. At 2am on Sunday 7th August 1994 – 43 officers strip searched 463 patrons over a 3 hour period. Universal outrage followed, costing Victoria Police $6million in compensation payouts.
Now, on the eve of the TASTY Raid’s 20th Anniversary, Victoria Police’s Acting Chief Commissioner Lucinda Nolan has issued a formal apology for the actions of police to those who were present on that day, and to the broader Victorian LGBTI community.Producer Dean Beck has compiled an historic account of the Tasty Raid and integrated todya apology from Victoria’s Acting Chief Commissioner for Police, Lucinda Nolan.
