The health system in Papua New Guinea is so bad that people are crossing the strait in order to access hospitals and doctors in Queensland. Between 2003 and 2007, this influx accounted for a 50% increase in costs to Queensland health. This week the PNG Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs – Sali Subam – is in Australia, with the hope of finding a way to improve health systems in his country. Australian Doctors International (or ADI) are a non government organization that provides health services in Papua New Guinea.
