The Turnbull government’s proposed plebiscite on same-sex marriage is already set to cost a minimum of $160 million in tax-payer money, but the Australian Marriage Equality (AME) says the number could end up exceeding $500 million.  The Australian Christian Lobby is set to receive $15 million should the plebiscite go ahead, something that AME disagrees with. Some Australian’s have expressed concern that plebiscites are not legally binding, and whatever decision is made by the Australian people must still go through parliament anyway.
