NSW customs today intercepted a huge shipment of “ice” or methylamphetamine. Coincidentally this week South Australia became the second state to ban the pipes used to smoke the drug, and NSW is also contemplating legislation which would make selling the pipes a jailable offence. Paul Dillon from the National Drug and Alcohol Research Council explained why the drug is increasingly popular. He says the banning of pipes doesn’t stop the spread of the drug and also creates the risk that people will inject instead.
