Philippines peace activists call for scrutiny of Australian military deal

As the United States starts to shift the focus of its global military presence towards the Asia Pacific region, countries like the Philippines are in the spotlight. In the past few days the country has received a visit from top brass in the US military to discuss tensions over maritime territory between the Philippines and China. Also in recent days the Philippines has taken steps to revive a military agreement with Australia that was initially struck by Gloria Arroyo and John Howard way back in 2007.
