In June this year Australia will host the largest military exercise ever seen in peacetime in this country. It’s Operation talisman Sabre, a bi-annual joint training exercise involving twelve thousand Australian and fourteen thousand US troops. Film maker David Bradbury is helping coordinate a ‘peace train’ bringing protestors from all over the country to attend a protest rock concert in the area during the exercises. President of the Medical Association for the Prevention of War Dr Tilman Ruff says apart from health issues arising from such an influx of troops, his society is concerned that Operation talisman Sabre focuses on invasion strategies and sends the wrong message to neighbouring countries.
