Single parents on welfare, with young dependant children, continuously feel a financial strain. While parents juggle between work, further education and attending to their child’s development, there may not be more room to fit in additional activities.
However, the government have decided to initiate a ‘blanket approach’ to deciding which of these single parents require additional support and placing compulsory activities or risk suspension or termination to their welfare payments. Parents and advocates have found the program to be restrictive and harsh, and are calling for an alternative program.
