An international student has been granted permanent residency after an alleged assault in Hobart last year left him paralysed.

Outgoing Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has granted Devarshi Deka permanent residency, allowing the 33-year-old Indian national to gain much needed support from the NDIS.

Devarshi, known as Dev, was with his friend, Rick Kaushik, when they were contacted over the weekend by officials. He told Powerd Media’s, Emma Myers, that from that point things moved very fast.
