Today the Australian senate saw chaotic scenes as Clive Palmer and the other new senators refuse to axe the carbon tax, accusing the government of not seriously intending to pass on savings to consumers. It was the first example of the difficulties ahead in the government’s relationship with the Senate and has everyone wondering what kind of climate change policy Australia will end up with.
Independent Senator Nick Xenophon voted to repeal the tax and said he is more interested in working with the government to achieve a carbon policy that will seriously address emissions targets.
