Over the last few months we have all heard about the bombing of Gaza, but for Palestinians, the reality of the Israeli occupation is not just a military one. According to a new book, “Palestine Inside Out”, the main encounters between Israelis and Palestinians are in government offices, at roadblocks and checkpoints, in planning applications, housing permits and regular identity checks. Catherine Zengerer caught up with the author of the book, Saree Makdisi, who told her why he calls it “oppression by bureaucracy” “Palestine Inside Out – an everyday occupation” by Sarre Makdisi, is published by Norton press.
