Oxfam wants refugee intake tripled

After the government confirmed the Manus Island detention centre will be closed down and the release of thousands of documents detailing stories of abuse on Nauru, Oxfam has called for the tripling of Australia’s humanitarian intake to 42, 000 per year.
They point out that Australia’s intake is low by world standards and the increase will only amount to 0.18 per cent of our population.
