Advocacy groups are arguing that women - usually a minority in prison numbers - are facing harsh prison conditions, as facilities are not keeping up with overcrowding.

The Western Australian Prisoner’s Union has today criticised the conditions in the Bandyup Women’s prison, pointing to overcrowding. The Economic Regulation Authority released a report finding widespread overcrowding and lacking in facilities across the prison system.
