Outgoing Governor General provokes anger over indigenous comments

The outgoing Governor General- Michael Jeffrey- is leaving office on an ambiguous note. In one of his final speeches he praised the indigenous heritage of Australia, and encouraged greater recognition of this in our school curriculum. More widely covered in the press, however, is a television interview with Sky News, where he claims that most indigenous Australians lead integrated, normal lives. Many in the indigenous community say this is not only erroneous but also misleading.
