Orange city council has voted in favour of providing 450 megalitres of their 2ndary water supply available to the Cadia Gold mine for purchase. The gold mine, says it has only 5 weeks supply of water remaining. The council has defended its move, claiming that keeping the mine open will protect hundreds of jobs. Its also guaranteed the town’s drinking will not be affected. But critics argue the move is a short-term fix which will impact negatively on the environment. The Wire spoke earlier with the Mayor of the City of Orange in NSW.
