Malalai Joya is a member of the newly formed Afghan Parliament. At a constitutional forum two years ago Joya said the people of Afghanistan had only escaped the Taliban cage to be now trapped in the cage of the warlords. This made her many enemies. Since then, Joya has survived at least four assassination attempts. Joya has been a vocal critic of the present government, who she says has made compromises with war criminals. On a recent tour of the United States Malalai Joya spoke to The Wire’s Alma Mistry and explained the state of affairs in Afghanistan and its parliament.
