The number of undernourished people in the world has hit record levels, with over 1 billion going hungry everyday. World food prices rose by 24% between 2006 and 2008, in large part due to speculation on produce commodity prices. And now the global financial crisis has reduced foreign investment and increased unemployment in developing countries. As we pass the one billion population mark, the UN Global Food Program says World Food Aid has hit its lowest level in 20 years – so has the issue of starvation been driven off the agenda?
