One in every 16 people are being turned away from community services because there is not enough funding. According to a survey released today by the Australian Council of Social Service or ACOSS, community services are struggling to meet the public’s demand for help. People who need housing assistance, disability supported accommodation and childcare are finding it hard to get the help they need. Lin Hatfield Dodds, president of ACOSS outlined the scale of the problem. Father Peter Norden, Associate Director of Jesuit Social Services says this sort of disadvantage affects whole communities rather than just individuals.
