Numbers of Koori women in Victorian prison system surge

Aboriginal women make up more of the Victorian prison system than ever before. 8 in 10 of them are mothers. The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission launched a report today to investigate the dramatic rise in representation of Koori women in Victorian gaols. One of its major findings was that there needs to be a ‘culturally and gender appropriate’ approach to address the incarceration of these women.
