The Northern Territory Greens are seeking a commitment from the government to protect indigenous legal aid services… The Federal government has called for tenders for legal aid services, but Greens candidate for the Darwin seat of Solomon, Ilana Eldridge, says Indigenous legal services play an important role in the Territory’s legal system. Ms Eldridge is pushing for Labor to clarify their position – she spoke to Craig Egert earlier. Ms Eldridge says that combined with the abolishment of ATSIC, the closure of indigenous legal aid groups will mean a serious loss of jobs and services for Aboriginal Territorians.
