A warning today that dry season burning off in the Top End is creating greater fire hazards, due to a lack of understanding of the methods used by traditional custodians. Charles Darwin University Academic DAVID BOWMAN has told Trevor Dodds the European approach of burning large tracts of land only encourages stronger growth of tall grasses – which in turn create more fuel for potential bushfires.
