Young defendants are spending twice as much time on remand, three years on from the introduction of section 22a of the Bail Act. The Law Council of NSW is today calling on both sides of politics to review the controversial section, ahead of the NSW state election. It has been blamed for doubling the time suspected juvenile criminals spend on remand, to more than a month.
