Quitting smoking is a hard task. New South Wales inmates from today won’t have a choice following the introduction of new smoking laws in prisons. All tobacco related products in correctional facilities are now considered contraband. This comes as bad news for the 80 per cent of prisoners who are smokers. The aim was to create a healthier workplace for correctional officers. Controversially, the ban will not be extending to the prison staff, who will continue to be able to smoke in their designated residences. Will guards have rioting on their hands as prisoners suffer withdrawal?
