Karaoke bars, pubs and hotels could face fines of up to $11,000 if they refuse to adopt Government imposed licence conditions, under new laws. The Hassle Free Nights legislation – introduced to the NSW Government’s Upper House last Thursday – targets popular night spots across the state. If passed, it will allow the Government to control the operating hours of drinking holes and confiscate alcohol in public spaces. While the proposed measures aim to protect the community, civil libertarians say the Government is going too far.
