Author Thomas Kenneally’s latest novel takes aim at the elitism and arrogance of the Catholic Church in its handling of child abuse scandals. Set in the 1990’s when survivors first started to come forward the book follows rebellious priest Father Frank Docherty as he returns from Church exile to Sydney and becomes caught up in the struggles of abuse survivors. He is forced to confront not only the Church hierarchy but also to expose a former acquaintance in a way that he fears will betray old friends.
