Alongside the national discussion about marriage equality, has been another discussion – about what it means to be transgender. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are no exception. There are a variety of views on transgender people, and not all of them are accommodating. Kai Clancey, is an Indigenous transgender man or ‘Brotherboy’ from the Wakka Wakka nation located on the eastern seaboard of Queensland. He travels around Australia, highlighting the existence of Brotherboys – and explores the relationship between being a transgender person and an Indigenous Australian.
