Chronic overcrowding of houses and homelessness are two major problems for Aboriginal people in remote areas of the Northern Territory. The government put forward $286 million as part of the ‘Closing the Gap’ initiative to tackle issues like this, but almost two years since it began, not a single house has been built. Country Liberals spokesman, Adam Giles told The Wire that with the stimulus package in full swing, now is the ideal time to fix the problem.
