Northern Territory to introduce mandatory reporting of domestic violence

The NT government is going to make it mandatory for everyone to report domestic violence – if you fail to contact authorities you’ll be breaking the law. Violence in the home is a huge problem across Australia – in the territory alone last year there were two thousand, six hundred reported assaults. While many states have mandatory reporting for child abuse, the NT is the first government to introduce a similar scheme designed to protect women. So should this plan be adopted nationwide and will it have the desired effect?
